This week I want to talk on ministry and serving. We have limited the amount of ministries we have on purpose, because we have found that it is better to do a few ministries with excellence rather than a bunch of ministries poorly. As I begin to discuss different ministries, I want to challenge our people (Bay Area) to reaffirm your commitments to seeing these ministries done right. We are only as strong as our people’s commitments and attitudes displayed while serving. So here goes:
Children Ministry
Excellence in children’s ministry first means clean and safe! Those are the basic. We do background checks on everyone, and no one is “grandfathered in,” no matter how long you have served. If someone is unwilling to fill out a background check, then we are unwilling to expose our kids to them….without apology. To prove a point, a number of years ago, I had our children’s ministry do one on me and my wife, to show there are no exceptions. On cleanliness, at Bay Area, in our children’s ministry, it is next to Godliness! We clean, and reclean, we disinfect, we repaint walls all the time, mop, sweep, and we are big on all rooms smelling fresh! No diaper smells! We also believe in having great attitudes that prevail with all workers. If a worker does not show up on time with a smile and a willingness in spirit to do “whatever it takes,” they are not only confronted, but if it continues, we will actually fire a volunteer. (you may want to read that line again). Why do we go to these extremes? BECAUSE OUR KIDS ARE WORTH IT!
